POST QUALIFICATION CLINICAL CASES
The Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology (CADI) supports the Training Standards in Implant Dentistry guidelines, produced by the College of General Dentistry (CGDent).
Clinical cases training
The UK Training Standards in Implant Dentistry advises that a minimum of 6 supervised straightforward level clinical cases should be undertaken, from start to finish (not just implant placement), prior to a beginner dentist undertaking independent practice in implant dentistry at straightforward level complexity.
As implant cases can often take over a year to complete, from initial assessment to final fit, treating 6 clinical cases may take several years for many dentists training in implant dentistry. For this reason, the supervised clinical cases component is completed after graduating with the DipImpDent.
Accreditation of clinical cases
Graduates of the DipImpDent can apply to have their 6 supervised clinical cases accredited by CADI. There is no additional charge for this accreditation. Graduates will need to nominate a colleague as their Local Mentor, who must be approved by CADI, for accreditation of their supervised clinical cases. We keep a searchable database of current Approved Local Mentors.
Clinical cases accreditation process
Following graduation with the DipImpDent, the process for accreditation of the 6 supervised clinical cases is:
1. Qualify with the Level 7 Diploma in Implant Dentistry.
2. Nominate a colleague to act as your Local Mentor.
3. Once your Local Mentor has been approved by CADI, commence your clinical cases.
4. The Approved Local Mentor completes the provided compentency assessment forms for each case.
5. Once all 6 cases have been finished, submit the forms signed by the Approved Local Mentor to CADI
6. CADI will then provide an Accreditation Certificate for your 6 supervised clinical cases.
Time limit
For accreditation of the postqualification clinical cases component, the 6 supervised clinical cases must be submited to CADI within 5 years of completion of the DipImpDent.
* The above only applies to delegates on the Beginners Pathway. This does not apply to delegates on the Experienced Practitioner Pathway.
